Massey Harris Ferguson was set up in 1953 and came about because of a merger between the UK based agricultural machinery company Ferguson, and farm equipment manufacturers Massey Harris who were based in Canada. The company changed name to Massey Ferguson in 1958. The brand Massey Ferguson is still current today, manufacturing agricultural equipment and tractors, but ownership is now under the large US agriculture machinery company AGCO.
The first Massey Ferguson branded tractor came off the production line in December 1957. It was the 35 model which was a great sales success in the important markets of the UK, US and Australia. The 135 model, which was a later addition to the range, was well-known for its reliability and power, and it too became hugely popular globally.
