Mercruiser 1.7 DTI Injector Nozzles

This injection nozzle is a direct match to and replacement for the original part number L089PBD which is no longer available from Delphi. Our part number is MERC089.
The nozzles are produced by an OE manufacturer in Italy, and is an SAC type of nozzle. An SAC type nozzle has a teardrop-like shape with a small cavity in the bottom of the injector. This cavity feeds into the injector and a tiny needle at the valve end closes the cavity. The cavity retains a small quantity of fuel in the tip, keeping it cool and extending the life of the nozzle, with fewer injector or nozzle faults.

The nozzles have received in-engine testing for a full year, and the tests revealed improvements in both engine performance and nozzle longevity. The original L089PBD had a much smaller amount of liquid in the nozzle which had a detrimental effect on its durability.
If the nozzle is going to be swapped or changed, it is important to adjust first and second stage pressures. Our MERC089 nozzle will give a higher second stage pressure than the original L089PBD primarily due to its construction and the pressure needs to be lowered.
Our recommended pressures are:
Stage 1 : 160-170bars.
Stage 2: 330-340bars.
