Bryce established themselves as specialist manufacturers of diesel fuel injection parts in 1941.
The company Petters – who were manufacturers of petrol and diesel engines – made the Bryce Fuel Injection Systems for all of Brush’s diesel engines. Brush is a manufacturer and maintainer of railway locomotives. This started in 1950, at premises in Staines, Middlesex.
Bryce Fuel Injection Ltd and Berger Equipment Ltd merged and became the more recognisable brand name of Bryce Berger Ltd in 1952, still based in Staines.
There were two changes of ownership for Bryce Berger in tThe 1950’s. It was firstly bought out by Brush Electrical Engineering co in 1955 and at the same time became a subsidiary of that company. Then in 1958, Hawker Siddeley, the aircraft manufacturer purchased it for its expertise and knowledge of fuel injection systems. Hawker Siddeley moved the company to its Gloster Aircraft factory in Gloucester to allow room for expansion.
The company was then sold by Hawker Siddeley to CAV who were a subsidiary of Lucas at the time. The companies manufactured ranges of fuel injection pumps that were complementary.
