Essentially, Fordson was a sub-brand of the Ford name and it was used for tractor (and some truck) manufacture between the years of 1917 and 1928 in the US and between 1928 and 1964 in the UK. The Fordson brand represented general-purpose tractors that were tough and reliable replacement for horses. As the Ford Model T was replacing the horse for general transport, so the Fordson was starting to replace the use of horses in agriculture.
Ford once again started to sell tractors in the US from 1939 onwards with a brand new model , but this time branded as a Ford. Ford of Britain kept the Fordson brand alive until 1964, and after that year all tractors wore a Ford badge.
