Bosch’s range of injectors apply to most vehicle manufacturers sold worldwide.
Delphi injectors are fitted to Citroen, Suzuki, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Jaguar, Renault, Dacia, Nissan, Ssangyong, Peugeot, Mercedes, and Tata.
Denso injectors are fitted to Chevrolet, Citroen, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Isuzu, Land Rover, Nissan, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Renault, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Toyota
Siemens injectors are fitted to Citroen, Peugeot, Ford, Jaguar, Suzuki, Land Rover, Renault, Volvo, VW, Toyota, Mazda, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Fiat and Nissan
For a diesel engine to function correctly, the injector has to produce atomised fuel at a set pressure and a specific time in the power cycle. To achieve this, the injector nozzle might need to be replaced at some stage if the engine is not performing as economically as it used to or if nozzle replacement is an intrinsic part of a car’s service plan.
If nozzle replacement is required, like-for-like is a must, otherwise an injector fitted with the wrong spray angle nozzle may cause engine malfunction.
Our stock of nozzles covers Bosch, Delphi (CAV), Lucas, Simms, Friedman Maier, Zexel (Dieselkiki), Denso (Nippon Denso), Siemans, and many other manufacturers.
Pre-common rail, the style of nozzle might be pintle, pintux, needle valve, longstem, and P-type.
Genuine and good quality replacements are always in stock of this type of nozzle (as well as the common rail type).
In between pre-common rail and common rail, there was the two-stage style of nozzle, and again these are a stock item.

Fitting the wrong type of nozzle can have quite serious consequences for the performance of an engine.
We stock a wide range of pilot valves which form part of the injector units. Pilot valves can fail within injectors because they are manufactured with such high precision and with very high tolerances. With Bosch injectors, we supply valves and valve assemblies that are titanium coated which adds to the longevity and strength of the valve.
We also stock the Delphi valve, and there is only one valve, which is a genuine Delphi valve, that works effectively.
There is no requirement for pilot valves on Siemens injectors as they use a fulcrum lever system to actuate the piezo stack.

EUI stands for Electronic Unit Injector, and was designed primarily for trucks and it was adopted by Land Rover and VW for passenger cars. Because an EUI can only be electronically controlled when the fuel cavity is pressurised from the camshaft lobe. As Co2 emissions are being further restricted common rail had to be adopted, to continually improve emissions.
The use of Electronic Unit Injectors has diminished over time as common rail has become the system of choice for most vehicle manufacturers particularly as emissions have been under so much scrutiny in the automotive world. However, some manufacturers such as Scania and Volvo still use EUI for their trucks and heavy commercial vehicle.
Darwen Diesels stock parts for EUI, as well as exchange units and we test and report for EUI engines.
If we don’t have stock, we are happy to repair customer units in house. We will also try for a next day service, but this is not always possible depending on the volume of work and access to spare parts.

Shims are used for changing performance parameters on injectors. Shims vary in thickness from 1 micron which is .001mm.
Diesel fuel injectors vary significantly depending on the manufacturer of the injector and the application. For example, one Bosch injector can have up to 7 types of adjustment which require 7 different shapes or sizes of shim.
With Delphi there is a button – rather than a shim – ranging from 3mm to 4.9mm. The increments are .05mm between each one.
With Denso there are 5 shims each affecting different performance characteristics of the injector such as start of injection, ball cup movement, and armature tension.
With Siemens there are 3 shims and 1 button which include an actuator shim, start of injection and maximum fuel delivery.

A tandem pump can be simply described as a low pressure fuel pump in a diesel engine which also includes a vacuum pump. They are used on engins with unit injectors and supply the fuel to the units.
A number of lorries on the road today use unit injectors, but smaller commercial vehicles and some cars use unit injectors – particularly cars in the VW group.
The use of tandem pumps is diminishing in the industry because of tighter emission regulations.
It is called a tandem pump because it has two functions: the first function is to act as the vacuum pump for the brake servo and the control circuits for the turbo and EGR, the second function is to supply fuel at approximately 8 to 8.5 bar to the galleries in the cylinder head and to the fuel injectors. The injectors are there to pressurise the fuel to very high pressure (2200 bar approx).
It is a complex and relatively expensive unit to manufacture and was ultimately replaced by the common rail system that has an external delivery injector system replacing the cylinder head galleries and all the other major engineering associated with the manufacturing process.
At Darwen Diesel we supply tandem pump repair kits, whereas original equipment manufacturers do not. They want you to simply purchase the pump. Our range includes vacuum tandem pump repair kits as well as all of the gaskets and seals you would need for Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen EUI diesel engine systems fitted to 1.2, 1.4, 1.9, 2.0, 2.5 and 5 litre diesel engines.
